Old Guisborian Lodge enjoyed a thoroughly memorable evening as Brethren, partners, families and friends gathered for a Burns & Comedy Night in support of Festival 2029, raising an impressive £1,100 towards the Province’s Festival appeal.
The Lodge room was filled to capacity, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere from the outset. Proceedings were opened with an outstanding and heartfelt address from event organiser Bro Tony Wedlake, whose words set the tone for an evening that perfectly blended tradition, humour and charitable purpose. His speech was warmly received and reflected the spirit of Freemasonry at its best—bringing people together in fellowship while supporting worthy causes.
The formalities of the evening were enhanced by the stirring sounds of the Piper, whose presence added a truly authentic Burns Night flavour. He led the parade into the hall and paraded the haggis which was presented by the hall chef Andy. This was followed by one of the highlights of the programme, the Address to the Haggis, delivered with great authority and wit by WBro Des Mackenzie. The ceremony was fittingly witnessed and paraded by the Worshipful Master, WBro Stephen Bland, and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro Martin Eggermont, adding further dignity and significance to the occasion.
Guests then enjoyed excellent food and lively conversation before being entertained by comedy from Bro Jimmy Lynas, whose performance had the Lodge room in fits of laughter and proved a real high point of the evening. Following the comedy, a well-received quiz, hosted by WBro Paul Reed, brought everyone together once more, encouraging friendly competition and plenty of good-natured banter across the tables.
A raffle of superb prizes, many dontated, displayed the generosity shown on the night ensuring that £1,100 will be going to the masonic family who are needys raised for Festival 2029, a testament to the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone involved. Old Guisborian Lodge is to be congratulated for organising such an enjoyable evening, combining fellowship, tradition and fundraising in equal measure, and for making a valuable contribution to the Festival appeal. They send their thanks to many helpers who made it special including Toni behind the bar who alongside Paul Reed kept everyone's drinks replenished resulting in £670 takings over the bar.
Numerous requests have resulted in another Burns Comedy night pencilled in the diary for 23 January 2027.
