Eboracum Donation to Musical Connections

 Musical Connections 1

Eboracum Lodge, a Dementia Friendly lodge who are well respected for their charity donations, have donated £500 to Musical Connections, a small group of musicians who empower people to lead happier and healthy lives through participating in music.

Since Covid, York has seen a huge increase in the number of people with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, ADHD and other mental conditions but unfortunately the level of support required hasn’t kept pace with the needs. Musical Connections help fill part of this lack of support by:

  • Advancing the wellbeing of vulnerable and socially isolated older people.
  • Relieving isolation and social exclusion amongst vulnerable people.
  • Providing opportunities for vulnerable and socially isolated people to learn, achieve and contribute to the work of the charity.
  • Sharing learning and skills

Ten weekly music groups and community choirs are held enabling them to reach these vulnerable and isolated older people living in a range of settings across our community. They travel around York and district to a diverse range of venues across York, such as GP surgeries, churches, community centers, local care homes and sheltered accommodation where they provide musical entertainment and participation for people with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, ADHD and other mental conditions.

Musical connections income is purely from donations so Eboracum’s donation has had a huge impact, allowing the charity to extend that support to more people, more frequently and to more venues through providing the necessary musical instruments and kit for them and the participants.

The Lodge’s donation was generously matched by a further £500 donation from Provincial Charity which Musical Connections gratefully received. Any other lodge interested in supporting this worthwhile project should contact Abigail Noble-Coates, Secretary (Abby@musicalconnections.org.uk).
