On Friday 12th September 2025, the Brethren of The Lodge of Philosophy 6057 gathered in the splendid surroundings of Saltburn Masonic Hall for what proved to be a truly historic and memorable evening.

The occasion was marked by a rare and very special event: the double initiation of a father and his son: Bro. Martin Dobson and Bro. Connor Metcalf. This unique moment, rich in symbolism and fraternity, was the first time in the Lodge’s history that a double initiation had ever been conducted.

Adding further significance to the evening, the ceremony was also the first ever working meeting presided over by the new Worshipful Master, who had only been installed into the Chair in May 2025. With the Lodge entering its summer recess in June, this September meeting was not only the first ceremony of their new Masonic season, but also the master's first opportunity to lead his Brethren in the Craft’s most important of rites.

The ceremony was carried out with great dignity and solemnity, and the sense of occasion was keenly felt by all present. The initiation of Bro. Dobson and Bro. Metcalf together was a moving reminder of the bonds of family and fraternity that lie at the heart of Freemasonry.

The event also highlighted the vitality and progress of the Lodge. To combine such a historic first with the leadership of a newly installed Master demonstrates that The Lodge of Philosophy 6057 continues to move from strength to strength, building upon its traditions while embracing the future with confidence.

The evening concluded with harmony and fellowship, leaving all who attended in no doubt that this special double initiation will be remembered in the Lodge’s annals for many years to come.
