St John of Bridlington Lodge Centenary

StJohn150

St john of Bridlington Lodge was consecrated on the 7th September 1922 at the Coliseum Hall Bridlington which is no longer standing.

The lodge building is now situated on St John’s Avenue in Bridlington and was for many years shrouded in mystery and speculation, it was a place where they dressed funny and did weird handshakes.

Over the passage of time the mystery and speculation has dissipated, with open days at the building visits by local youth groups and the lodges having a more visible presence in the community and now the building also has a Ladies Lodge.

St John of Bridlington has been involved with the Salvation Army, RNLI, The Hinge Centre, The Bridlington Boys and Girls Boxing Club, The Bridlington Gymnastic Club and more recently MND Society.

It has also supplied Bridlington Hospital with Teddy Bears for children to help their recovery.

So perhaps when people hear that you are a mason or when they are walking past that “Funny Building” they will maybe smile and think and say thank you.
