A charity night was held recently at the Star Inn Weaverthorpe on Saturday 23rd September in aid of MNDA.

The event was originally conceived, aided with a few beers by WBro Conrad Fox & WBro Richard Gillett of the Leopold lodge No 1760, in the bar after one of their recent meetings.

Conrad, an accomplished musician and head teacher of Hunmanby Primary School was discussing the fact that he had recently formed an acoustic duet “Three15” with his deputy head John and they were looking to do their first gig but needed a venue and that they would play for free or possibly do something for charity. Richard, who is Sales Director at Wilfred Scruton Ltd and who has since become chief roadie and sound engineer for the band! put Conrad in contact with the land lady of his local establishment and the rest his history.

In between musical sets a raffle and auction were held, with Richard at the helm accepting bids for multiple lots. The event was very well supported by locals and friends from far and wide, with seating and standing room at a premium. Running over into the early hours approx £1300 was raised on the night, with a collection from the last Leopold Lodge meeting rounding the total sum up to £1500.

A cheque was presented to representatives of The North East Coast branch of MNDA on the 12th of October with the land lady and patrons of the Star Inn receiving a note of gratitude and thanks for their efforts.
