Supporting York Sands

Butterfly Bereavement Suite

Mitre Lodge of York has been pleased to support York Sands with a donation of £250 towards their “Butterfly Project” for the relocation and provision of a new bereavement family room within the Maternity Department at York Hospital.

At York Hospital, staff are grateful to have a designated room for parents to use and stay in with their baby. Every week at York Hospital a baby is born that will not survive.

The aim is to provide the families who will sadly suffer a loss of their baby at the hospital somewhere they feel safe and cared for. YORK SANDS want them to have somewhere comfortable and quiet to sleep, somewhere with space to walk and space to sit, somewhere with access to fresh air, somewhere they can have family visit and somewhere to give them quality time to start to say goodbye to their baby and begin their journey of grief.

A successful appeal to Freemasons Charity Yorkshire North & East ridings brought matched funding of £250 under their Autumn Appeal scheme.

York Sands offer support to anyone affected by the death of a baby, at any stage of pregnancy, or any one that dies shortly after birth for any reason.
They run monthly meetings that are informal and just the chance for a chat with parents who will have had a similar experience
