It is thrilling to report that the much-anticipated return of the Annual Provincial Golf Competition, held at Driffield Golf Course on 24 August, also saw the Golf Club celebrating in its 100th year, twas a day of picturesque greens, seasoned Masonic golfers and novices alike coming together for a day of sportsmanship, camaraderie, heartwarming triumphs and Brotherly love…. Well, for the most part!
From the “get go”, the golf course came alive with the rhythmic swings of eager brethren, each shot echoing the spirit of the game & Freemasonry in general. The fairways witnessed remarkable drives[and not so] that soared through the air, and the greens bore witness to delicate putts that left everyone in awe, especially to the one who had landed the putt.
The success of the Golf Day was not just in the scores but fostered by the shared hearty laughter, general banter[some have another word for that!!] and a wonderful atmosphere of togetherness after such a long period away due to COVID19 amongst other challenges.
Highlighting Remarkable Achievements, the overall winners of the Zetland Cup were Constitutional Lodge 294, very fitting as the Club Captain and member of the Lodge Team is W.Bro Chris Moore [seen above with RWBro Dr. David Chambers the Provincial Grand Master and the Club President W.Bro Niel Woodward]. The 1st Division Trophy was won by W.Bro Phil Beadle of St Andrew Lodge 4683 and the 2nd Division by W.Bro Dave Knowles of Sykes Lodge 1040, W.Bro Phil Beadle also won the Raylor cup for nearest the pin.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the Brethren who played and supported the day and all the staff at the club who made this day a spectacular triumph. I look forward to next year with anticipation, when the Zetland Cup it’s self, will celebrating 150 years young and eager to recreate the magic and take the whole competition to the next level, Fooooorrrreeee……
In the spirit of swinging success and sporting Masonic camaraderie - So mote it be.
