We were delighted to be invited to take part in this year’s Lord Mayor of York Golf Day held at Pike Hills Golf Club on Friday 25 April 2025; this year in support of the Stroke Association, Survive, York City FC Foundation and York RLFC Foundation.
W Bro David Alderson assembled a team of intrepid golfers representing Alcuin Lodge 6300 and our Province but was unable to play himself because of a recurring back problem. W Bro Geoffrey Toulmin was nominated as Captain and following a fortifying bacon buttie the team of four Teed off at 10.45am. W Bros Martin Gaunt, Alistair Sherry and Terry Burt made up the foursome.
Having self-declared that none of our intrepid warriors was on best form they did manage to contribute to a team score total of 79. On the day, the lowest points team scored 63 whilst the top was 94 so a creditable mid-table placing seemed like a respectable result. Pike Hills Golf Club provided excellent hospitality, and steak pie, peas and chips afterwards was most welcome.
The team all agreed that the highlight of the day was just simply enjoying a round of golf in excellent company whilst supporting the great causes of the Mayor’s charities.
W Bro Martin Eggermont, APGM and W Bro John Davison, Community Engagement, were delighted to attend in support of our team and who were fortunate to enjoy a bacon butty apiece and meet with the Lord Mayor Cllr Margaret Wells and civic party including Ms Fiona Fitzpatrick, the Sheriff of York and her Consort Mr Geoff Cossins, all who expressed their thanks and pleasure for the continued support by Freemasons in our Province. A number of others playing on the day commented on how good it was to see the Freemasons in the public eye.
The golf day has raised many thousands of pounds for Charity over the years and on this day £5,100.
Thanks are expressed to Event Organisers, Mr Graham Bradbury, Garry Dunn and Kirsten Ovenden for their swift and very helpful registration process advice and of course our Alcuin Lodge 6300 masonic team of David, Martin, Alistair and Terry for their willingness to represent our Province whilst actively displaying community engagement.
